WARSTARS

The Siskiyou Micropub

* * *
Andy and Apollo wanted to take some time to get ready for the next show. With Andy's birthday coming up on August 12th, Andy figured that would be just about right...

After a frustrating time allocating the gig with the owner of the micropub, Andy finally had it booked (perhaps he was a little frightened about what to expect... what with a name like "Warstars" and all...)
Now the boys just had to prepare.

Andy & Apollo practiced regularly for the next month at Studio 57. This was also the house where they both happened to live. Over time however, Andy grew weary of Apollo's stoned, slack-jawed slouching at the drum kit. Apparently Apollo had also had it with Andy's manner of speaking.

"I feel that you've become verbally abusive," said Apollo to Andy.

"What are you talking about?" replied Andy. "I've been verbally abusive all along, and I have the tapes to prove it!"

Anyway, Apollo and his dad showed up with a U-Haul a couple days after that, and then Andy was on his own again. Yay!

So Andy called up his good buddy Master B the next day and asked him to play the show. B was more than stoked to play, and with that they planned practices.

As it turned out, B only had the four days preceding the show to practice and learn song material. Andy ran through a ton of material in the first couple days, and by the last couple days, had it narrowed down to the songs that made the setlist.

With that, Andy And B played Andy Warstar's Birthday Party gig and it went over great. Warstars had the whole night to themselves, so they played two full sets of music. Andy's friend and fellow Warhead, Sol, came down from Portland to videotape the performance on digital video. Taping went well... mostly... Perhaps it was the beer that went to Sol's head, but it ended up that two of the best songs, "Dangerous Hippie" and "Attached 2 You" didn't get recorded*.

Oh well. What did get captured turned out great. This was probably the longest Warstars performance to date, and featured many musical firsts, including "Jane Says", "Carini", and "Sanity". The Warstars medley was also longer than ever, incorporating 5 songs into one. This performance features a guest performance by Milo, playing flute on "Wizard". Thanks Milo!
