WARSTARS, Helsinki, Bathtub Full of Sharks
Ash St Saloon, Portland, OR
* * *
This show
was even more amazing than the March 21st show. Kreist Gryndor
and Battleship Potamkin both claim they were too drunk to
tell one way or the other. Andy Warstar seemed relatively
sober...until Slogbaud invaded his body... Anyways, the show
kicked ass.
The Warstars played the same setlist as the last show. The
main difference was that at this show, Kaptain Slogbaud made
his first appearance. Donning the American Flag as a cape
and a patton leather cod piece, Slogbaud proceeded to posess
the body of Andy Warstar and create mass chaos.
Warstars opened the show with "Drums Of Death".
Each band member had his own full size industrial oil barrel
to bang on. Professional drum mallets were used, but Andy
couldn't find his. So instead of mallets, he used a frying
pan that he found in the back of his step-mom's mini-van.
The handle broke off by the end of the first song. A Warhead
proudly snatched it up after it flew off into the crowd.
By show's end, Andy Warstar (Kaptain Slogbaud) had smashed
both his guitars. Andy, Kreist, and Battleship then took up
baseball bats and smashed a computer monitor to hell (we don't
advise doing this ever, as you'll end up breathing
in atomized glass particles that make the air all sparkly,
while shortening your lifespan).
Everyone's hands were bleeding from playing "Drums of
Death" at the end of the show as well. Warstars finished
their set with a noise rock "Teenage Lobotomy Jam"
by the Ramones, featuring Andy on the megaphone screaming
"Tumor-Syphillis-Itis-Osis!
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"
over and over and over...
After the show, a large African American accompanied by two
"white devils" in khakis and white t-shirts tried
to steal the Warstars megafone and some other Warstars equipment.
Gryndor and Potamkin were ready to get into it, but Andy saved
everyone a lot of trouble by going back inside and calling
the cops... One of the few times cops have actually been helpful.
Funny to see the cops reaction when he learned that Kaptain
Slogbaud was the one to make the call for assistance.
This
concert performance was dedicated to Joey Ramone.

*The Buttery Lords
canceled, and Bathtub full of Sharks
filled in for them. The Warstars personally thank Helsinki,
who are simply a great band. (Andy was their stand-in drummer
for three weeks...) |
