The Hinge* was
a progressive alternative rock band, founded in 1992 by Mike Tysoe and
Mike Lyles. The band existed for a year and a half in Moscow, Idaho.
The Hinge got off the ground when Mike T. (guitar and vocals), joined
with Mike L. (percussion), quickly inducted Heather Whatshername to play
bass. However, her moping, gothic, wall-leaning style didn't really fit
The Hinge vibe, so after a couple practices, Mike and Mike decided to
oust her from the band.
A couple weeks later, Mike T. was talking to his neighbor Josh Boyd, about
playing bass guitar. Josh went out and bought a bass soon after and, after
feeling the chemistry flow at a couple practices, The Hinge became a complete
trio. In the short time the band jammed, the guys played three key gigs:

*This web page is dedicated to
the memory of Jack from R.P.M. Records in Moscow, Idaho. Jack was pivotal
in helping The Hinge decide on their name. He played Nirvana's Heart Shaped
Box single for Mike T. when it came out. He had a big heart, himself.
Both he and his son were killed by a drunk driver soon after.
